How to Insulate Your Home With Spray Foam

In many cases, homeowners opt for spray foam insulation as it is cheaper than most other forms of insulation. Although this kind of insulation isn’t always cheap, the numerous advantages of spray foam insulation can really save you money over time. The best thing about spray foam insulation is that it’s incredibly durable and can take a lot of abuse before wearing out. The other nice thing about spray foam insulation is that it comes in various different densities. Some of the densities are more cost effective than others and depending on what you’re trying to insulate, that will help determine what density you should use in your home.

One of the most common kinds of spray foam insulation is called closed cell polyurethane and it comes in three different densities. Closed cell polyurethane is typically used in structures that have a finished interior – for instance, walls or cabinets that aren’t stained or painted. The closed cell polyurethane spray foam insulation comes in two different densities, one being low density and the other being high density. High density can be even thicker than low density.

Another common type of spray foam insulation is called fiberglass and it’s made up of tiny fiberglass beads. The advantage of using fiberglass is that they don’t retain heat and therefore don’t need any sort of heat sealing fluid to keep them inflated. However, like closed cell polyurethane, fiberglass can have an impact on the structural integrity of your building structure so it should be considered only if you have a completed building structure.
